Welcome

Welcome To The Becket Sixth Website

I thank you for your interest in our school. The Becket Sixth is an outstanding sixth form, achieving the best results in the County (state schools) year on  year and appears in The Times top 200 schools list each year.

We are a caring and tolerant community in which staff and students work together. Well motivated students are welcomed and share a common aim with teachers: that of ensuring that these years are well spent and have a successful outcome.

For many students the Sixth Form represents two short but very special years of their lives. It is a crucial time which can place considerable pressures on the student; it can also be a time to discover the true satisfaction of learning, a time to make new friends and to find new interests and pursuits.

Our first aim is to enable our students to fulfil their academic potential. But while we emphasise the importance of academic achievement, we see this as only one aspect of the development of the whole person.

For these reasons it is essential that the place of your choice should be one which holds out the best prospect for your academic success, but also one in which you will feel sufficiently happy and ‘at home’ to be able to work steadily towards your personal goals.

Also a welcome from our Assistant Headteacher
(in charge of Post 16)

There is a strong emphasis on independent learning at this stage of education. Our Post-16 facilities provide students with a calm, purposeful environment where they can study independently during their free periods. In Year 12, students also follow a super-curricular programme designed to support wider reading and deeper exploration of their chosen subjects, helping them to develop confidence, curiosity and academic independence.

Alongside their A Level courses, students can choose to study additional qualifications such as the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and Core Maths, both of which carry UCAS points. We also offer Speaking in Public and Sports Leaders awards, giving students the opportunity to build confidence, leadership skills and practical experience beyond the classroom.

Our enrichment programme is a vital part of Sixth Form life. Students can take part in a range of activities including our highly successful Debate and Young Enterprise groups, which have achieved both regional and national awards. These experiences allow students to develop teamwork, enterprise and communication skills while applying their learning in real-world contexts.

We believe strongly in developing the whole person, not just academic success. Students take part in the Stella Maris Leadership Award, which fosters service, responsibility and personal growth. Through leadership, enrichment and wider participation, students build character, resilience and a strong sense of community. Participation in these programmes provides valuable experiences that can strengthen UCAS personal statements, job applications and future opportunities. They demonstrate commitment, initiative and a willingness to go beyond academic study.

Post-16 students are also important role models within the wider school community. Many choose to mentor younger pupils in specific subjects or reading, and take part in Drama, Music and whole-school events, supporting and inspiring others.

The Becket Sixth Form Team is committed to supporting every student to achieve their very best, both academically and personally.
