How To Apply – Year 6 into Year 7 Admissions

Important Information for Secondary School Applications

As you prepare to apply for a secondary school place for your child, we would like to provide some important details regarding the application process for The Becket School.

Since we are a faith school, we require additional documentation as part of the application.

All applications must be submitted through the Common Application Form provided by your home Local Authority. Please ensure that your application is submitted to your home Local Authority by the national closing date of 31 October.

Depending on your place of residence, parents/carers should refer to their respective Local Authority websites for full details on the admissions process, including key dates for the admissions cycle. The relevant websites are:

Nottingham City Residents – We are aware that some Nottingham City residents are unable to see The Becket School in the list of schools when they are making their application for September 2025.

The Becket School can be found in the main list of schools (all local authorities), and under the Nottinghamshire LA when filtering the search. Please do not search under Nottingham because we will not show in this list. Once you have filtered by ‘all local authorities’ or ‘Nottinghamshire’, you can then search us by name:

If you are applying on the basis of faith, once you have made your application on the Common Application Form with your home Local Authority, we need you to send us a completed Supplementary Information Form along with the required supporting evidence. For Catholic children this is normally a copy of your child’s baptism certificate. The Supplementary Information Form can be found at the bottom of this page. Please complete this form and return it directly to The Becket School along with a copy of the baptism certificate or other required supporting evidence as requested on the form. These documents can be posted to the school or emailed to admissions@becketonline.co.uk

Please be aware that if we do not receive the completed Supplementary Information Form and the required supporting evidence by 31 October it could result in your child being placed in a lower admissions category in the oversubscription criteria and may affect your child’s chance of being offered a place.

Parents whose children have not been offered a place at a school in the normal admissions round will be added to the school’s waiting list unless they have been offered a place at a higher preference school. The waiting list will remain open until the end of the academic application year.  If a parent wishes their child to remain on the waiting list, they must re-apply each academic year. The Becket School manages the waiting list.

If you are unsure of what is required or if you need any further information please call the school on 0115 982 4280 and ask for Admissions.

MANAGEMENT OF WAITING LISTS

Waiting Lists for the Normal Round (Y7)

If the academy is oversubscribed during the normal round (we receive more applications than we have places), the Local Authority set up a waiting list which is shared with us and maintained up to 31 December by the Local Authority. Beyond that date The Becket School maintains the waiting list. The waiting list is ranked in accordance with the oversubscription criteria. If a place becomes available, then the applicant at the top of the waiting list will be offered the place. The waiting list will be always maintained and kept up to date. It is a working document, and an applicant can move both up and down the list. When a new application is added to the waiting list the list it will be re-ranked according to the oversubscription criteria. The date of the application is not relevant to the ranking.

Waiting Lists for Other Year Groups

If the academy is oversubscribed, then waiting lists will be maintained for each year group. An applicant may only apply once for a place in a given academic year. If the applicant is on a waiting list for a particular year group and wishes to then be considered for a place in the next academic year group a new application should be made for that next academic year group. Waiting lists only apply for one year and will not roll over to the next academic year.

How to Apply

An application can be made for a place for a child at any time outside the admission round and the child will be admitted where there are available places.  An application should be made to Nottinghamshire County Council School Admissions – https://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/ by completing the LA Common Application Form – Apply for a School Place (servelec-synergy.com) and following the instructions on the LA website. If applying for a place on faith grounds you will also need to complete a Supplementary Information Form 2024 25 and return this to admissions@becketonline.co.uk

Where there are places available but more applications than places, the published oversubscription criteria, as set out in the admission arrangements, will be applied. Parents are advised to read the admission arrangements carefully before making their application.

If there are no places available, the child will be added to the waiting list.  Please see the admission arrangements for more details.

You will be advised of the outcome of your application in writing as soon as possible.  Applicants must be informed of the outcome of their application within 15 school days of receipt, but the aim is to notify applicants of the outcome of their application within 10 school days of receipt.

You have the right to appeal to an independent appeal panel if your application is unsuccessful.
