University Admissions & Aptitude Tests

For certain subjects at certain universities you will need to sit an aptitude or admissions test; these don’t test your knowledge of the subject but they do try to ascertain whether you would be a suitable candidate for the subject.

The main ones are: LNAT for Law; UKCAT and BMAT for Medicine, Veterinary Science and Dentistry.

UKCAT – this test is required by more universities than the BMAT.

UKCAT testing takes place between July and early October.

Then you must complete an online registration at Pearson Vue and then book a test at your local test centre. The test cannot be sat in school. You are strongly recommended to register and book your test early to ensure places are available at a local centre.

The test can be sat in September or October but some universities will only accept tests from one or the other. You can only take the BMAT once in an admissions cycle. The test can be sat in school.

Please aware that the October test date often falls during the October half term week
