Beyond the Curriculum
At The Becket School we run a wide range of extra curricular activities. These sessions take place at lunch time, after school and even during the school holidays. A variety of sporting activities and fixtures take place, and our sports teams have enjoyed increasing success in various competitions. Music is a strong feature of life at The Becket School and we have a thriving school orchestra, a concert band and ensembles and choral groups of varying sizes. We strongly encourage our young people to pursue an interest in music and they have the opportunity to gain from an ever growing range of instrumental tuition at all levels. There is also a strong tradition of drama, with several dramatic and musical productions each year.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme is available to all students, starting with the bronze award in Year 9. The successful students will have the opportunity to continue with the silver and gold awards in Year 11, Year 12 and Year 13.
Careers and Enterprise
We have fostered effective links with industry and all of our students have the opportunity to learn from the world of work. We are partnered with Alliance Boots through our Business in the Community programme, “Business Class” and regularly offer enterprise style challenges and workshops. Each student has the opportunity to undertake a work experience placement during the summer term of year 10.
Students are given a wide variety of support and advice from our Achievement, Careers and UCAS Leader, and an organised programme of events and activities deigned to enhance enterprising and employability skills is provided for all students from years 7-13. This includes writing CVs, listening to talks from external business professionals including former Becket students, Enterprise days, mock interviews, visits to careers fairs, assistance with choosing courses/universities/apprenticeships and visits to local universities. In addition, the annual Careers Fair not only focuses on future career choices but the opportunity to discuss a variety of topics with representatives from several universities.
