As part of the extra-curricular provision in the Drama Department we have extended it to include an opportunity for students to write scripts in conjunction with the National Theatre. The young people received training and visits from professional playwrights during the process, learning how to sculpt character, narrative and subtext into their own work. We are extremely pleased to announce that Rachel Lane, currently studying in the Sixth Form, had her play entitled £39, shortlisted into the top 10 of over 300 plays written nationwide. Consequently, Rachel had the opportunity to work alongside professional directors and actors at the National Theatre as her play was prepared for a rehearsed reading in the Dorfman Theatre on Thursday 12th July. James Graham, a hugely successful playwright, spoke highly of Rachel’s play as he judged the final 10 plays, further underscoring the excellent achievements from Rachel.
