The Becket School will be holding its annual Book Week during the week beginning 3rd December 2018.
On Monday 3rd December the award winning poet, Karl Nova, will launch the week by performing to students in Years seven, eight and nine. He has recently won the CLIPPA poetry prize and has had his first collection of poetry published – ‘Rhythm and Poetry’.
On Thursday 6th December our visitor is Paula Rawsthorne, the author of ‘The Truth about Celia Frost’, ‘Blood Tracks’ and ‘Shell’, who has worked with our Year Nine pupils on several occasions. She gives an inspirational presentation which has resulted in her books flying off the LRC shelves. All Year nine students will see her during their scheduled English lesson.
Both Karl and Paula will be signing copies of their books which will be on sale in the LRC. ‘The Truth about Celia Frost’ is temporarily out of print but attached is more information about ‘Blood Tracks’, ‘Shell’ and Karl’s book ‘Rhythm and Poetry’.
On Friday 7th December students in all year groups are invited to dress as a book character and make a contribution of £1. All the money raised will go towards the Building Hope in Bunkpurugu project.
From Friday 30th November until Tuesday 11th December we will be hosting a Scholatic Book Fair in the LRC (library). Flyers will be given out to Key Stage Three students in advance. Students will be brought by their teachers to browse through the available books and then they will be able to make purchases during the lunch break and after school. In addition, these books will be available for purchase at The Becket School Christmas Market on Wednesday 5th December from 5 to 8 pm.
I am sure that the week will be an interesting and enjoyable one and I thank you in advance for your support.
